Is there a preferred way to insert the tippet though the eye of the
hook depending on the type of fly? (Up thru or down thru the eye?)

When I tie a subsurface fly such as a streamer to my tippet using a Duncan loop knot I start by going down trhu the eye.

With a dry fly I thread the tipped up through the eye instead using a double clinch knot. This allows positioning the fly a little bit dowwards which makes a better presentation.

I know you guys are talking flys, but never put much thought how it would affect crankbaits and topwater lures in general?
