Had an opportunity to fish at the Berkshire Fishing Club on Saturday, June 20th. Some background info: BMrev01 and myself had heard of the club on the radio, they were having a Father's day fun tourney. Well the tourney got rescheduled to this coming weekend, June 27th. That date did not work in our schedules so the owner of the club, let us go up their with our sons on the 20th.
The Berkshire Fishing Club is a private club in Becket, MA. It is on Palmer Lake, a 125 acre man-made lake, developed 30 years ago. The lake area is owned by a few families. They have 10 boats outfitted with small gas engines and trolling motors. These boats are the only ones allowed on the lake, so their is never a crowd. The lake is also laking the constant wakes from waverunners, ski boats and recreational boaters. It is strickly for the use of their members. The club Annual dues are a little out of my range, but once in a while they offer a special such as this Father's day tournament. The tournament cost $45 per person, which included 4 hours of fishing, lunch and awards.
We showed up around 7:45 am. They were waiting for us with two boats ready to go. The owner was very cordial and spoke to us in length about the history of the lake and some of the hot spots, which pretty much ended up being anywhere on the lake. The bass were hitting equally on both Senkos and top water. BMrev01 is a very experienced angler, him and his son probably pulled in around 40 or so fish in the 5 hours we were there. My son and I , who are not the most experienced, were able to catch about 20 or so. The biggest fish of the day was about 4.5 lbs. All in all it was a great day. Experienced and Novices alike would have a great time at this place. They have rescheduled their tournament for this coming weekend. Check them out on the web for more info.
