Hello, I have a 19' Nitro My current electronics are an Lowrance LMS-332C GPS sonar in the console, and a Lowrance X-96 in the bow. The X-96 is garbage and the 332C doesn't seem to have good definition and the transducer must be poorly mounted because it looses signal above around 45-50 mph. I am looking to upgrade my electronics. I was leaning toward the HDS-5 with lake maps two units front and rear. Recently Cabelas put a 798 CI SI HD unit on sale which I think is a better unit than the Lowrance. Any input. I wish I could afford larger screens but I can't so 5" seems to be what I can get away with, but I want GPS, chart plotting, down imaging, and side imaging seems worth it at the discounted price for the 798. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, -Chris

I wish I could help you my electonics are older and are still working fine so no upgrade till I purchase a new rig.. many guys on here have purchased new electronics in the last year so maybe they could shed some light on the subject. I will not go crazy with my next elec purchase just due to the fact the new ff seem to be like computers and cell phone as soon as you buy one the next best thing gets released. lol good luck

Thanks

That's what I'm worried about too. If I buy the sale unit now for the console and get a bow unit in the spring am I going to be able to interlink them? That would really stink to throw money down and have it wasted, besides not being able to use it all winter.

I would go with Humminbird myself just for the customer service if nothing else. I think both units have their good and bad points and are similar on features.I have been running HB for 5 yrs now and love them, I had been running Lowrance many years before I switched. I'm sure there are other people on here that are Lowrance fans that will disagree with me but that's just my opinion. Yes as soon as you buy one there will be another new one that is better, faster, bigger and new features before you get yours mounted on your boat. Good luck

Thanks for the input Tim. Seems like with the more research I do it's a bit less expensive to go with Humminbird for comparable units with side scan.
