1989 johnson gt 150HP, I had gas leaking from everywhere last fall. I just rebuilt all three carbs and the bottom 2 are perfect… no leaks. While rebuilding the top carb I found a crack in the float bowl dumping fuel. Action Marine gave me a used one to get me going. Now here's the point where my brain is starting to turn to mush, please help. The top carb is leaking fuel after 1 push of the primer ball, the fuel is clearly coming from the (new) gasket between the plastic float bowl and the metal carb body. I changed the float, needle and seat twice and still it leaks. I also replace the new gasket with another new gasket…still leaks!!! Could it be that the new/used float bowl, 20 years old, could be warped slightly and not allow for a snug fit with a 16th inch rubber gasket. ConfusedDoesn't really make sense to me. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Sean, did you change the small  o-ring seat for the needle valve?? it sounds like the needle valve is not seating properly

Thanks mossboss.

I ended up honing the float bowl with 320 grit paper and reused the gasket. It's now dry as my wife's Thanksgiving turkey. This confirmed my warped bowl theory. Yea me! Again thanks for the input. Also thanks Dave for all your kind words of encouragement, I was at my wits end with this carb rebuild.

 Hey Scott!!!

I became a layoff statistic in August 09. I'm enrolled full time in HVAC school and building transmissions to make ends meet. I understand you may fish the Chicopee club. It's a great group of guys, you'll have fun. If your serious about your carbs let me know. Ill do em cheaper than any marina, they wanted $200/carb.
