An Open Letter To All My Fellow Anglers,

I'm sure by now most of you are aware of the ongoing weed control efforts on our local waters. It has become a policy of local lake organizations and state government to use a more invasive means for weed control by way of herbicide spray. They're claim is that it's less expensive than mechanical harvesting and provides better control at the same time causing no harm to wildlife. Yet we all know that this is a flat out LIE! We've seen the results of these spraying for ourselves. The dead fish of all species floating on the water, severe decreases in the weight of fish after a spraying, indigenous species of weeds being eradicated! They claim that the fish we see dead is a result of normal summer stresses. Funny how we didn't see this kind of kill off before they started spraying. We need to wake up people and stop this before it's too late. Mechanical harvesting is a safer better means of control all around. But it does no good for me to sit here and spout of about it unless you all agree to join up together, spreading the word and stand strong against this. If we unite together we can stop this, these are our lakes too! Not just the people who live on them that only care about a weed free place to swim. It was their choice to live on a lake with weeds, it doesn't give them the right to destroy it in the name of more enjoyable recreation. Are you all with me, or should we stand by and let this continue. Let me know if your with me and we can start to fight for the rights of that which has no voice, our lakes! We are supposed to be conservationists, we brought back the wildlife and aquatic life that was desecrated once before by man, lets not turn a blind eye to this guys! What say you?

Henry,

Thank you for the post.. I agree that the lakes are a natural place for everyone to enjoy and use.  I am sure that dumping chemicals into them like a swimming pool cannot be good for them.  How can people help?  Should they reply to you directly? Sign a petition? Call someone? What are the next steps to take?
