Ok let me try to break this one down for you Don. First of I will tell you it depends on what the rules state for the trail or tournament your fishing. But in general most tournament trails or open tournaments use the BASS or FLW rules as a format. The rule for ties varies depending on which tournament organization who's rules you choose to use. In a one day event FLW rules state that the prizes for the finished positions are added together and split evenly. However, most trails and open events don't use this part of the rule (FLW) for ties. The next way to break a tie in FLW and the first way to break a tie in BASS is number of legal fish weighed. So based on this rule used by both organizations (for FLW it depends on the event) that is normally adopted by local trails and open tournaments the 5 fish should have come in 3rd, 4 fish in fourth and 3 fish in 5th. If it was still tied after number of fish, it would be total number of live fish weighed. After that it would either be by lottery or split evenly. You do not use lunker as a determining factor unless the organization your fishing in has a rule that specifies such. If FLW or BASS rules are in place the example I gave will be the ruling.
